This policy explains what personal information Sofa Repair Guy collects when you visit sofarepairguy.com or contact us, and how we look after it.

Who we are

Sofa Repair Guy is run by Gareth Jones, an independent sole trader based in Tottington, Greater Manchester. Gareth is the “controller” of your personal information under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

What information we collect

We only collect information you choose to give us, plus basic technical data from your visit:

  • Contact details – your name, phone number, email address and home address, when you message us, call, or book a repair.
  • Details about your furniture – descriptions and photos of the item you want repaired.
  • Job and payment records – what work was done, quotes, invoices and payments received. We do not store card details.
  • Website data – basic technical information such as your IP address and browser type, which our hosting provider Cloudflare uses to deliver and protect the site, plus anonymous visit statistics that don’t use cookies, and a spam check (Cloudflare Turnstile) when you send the contact form (see our separate Cookies Policy).

How we use your information

  • To reply to your enquiry and give you a quote.
  • To arrange and carry out repairs, including visiting your home or collecting furniture.
  • To send invoices, take payment and keep business and tax records.
  • To deal with any questions or complaints about our work.
  • To keep the website working properly and understand how it is used.

We will not send you marketing messages unless you ask us to, and we never sell your information.

Our legal reasons for using your information

  • Contract – we need your details to quote for and carry out the work you ask for.
  • Legal obligation – we must keep certain financial records for HMRC.
  • Legitimate interests – running and improving our small business and website, in ways you would reasonably expect.
  • Consent – if you agree to us using photos of your furniture in our online gallery. You can withdraw consent at any time.

Who we share it with

We only share your information where needed to run the business:

  • Our email provider (Google) and our website hosting provider (Cloudflare), which also delivers contact form messages to us. They store and process data on our behalf.
  • Our accountant, for tax and bookkeeping.
  • HMRC or other authorities, if the law requires it.

Some of these providers may store data outside the UK. Where they do, they use legally approved safeguards to protect it.

Photos of your furniture

We like to show before-and-after photos of our work in the website gallery. We will only use photos of your furniture with your permission, and never show anything that identifies you or your home.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct anything that is wrong;
  • ask us to delete your information (unless we must keep it by law);
  • object to, or ask us to limit, how we use it;
  • withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent.
